MEB agrees with ITU for including Artificial Intelligence in Education
Republic of Turkey, Ministry of National Education (MEB) collaborates with Istanbul Technical University (ITU) about developing and implementing artificial intelligence applications in education.
There will be a joint study on the usage of artificial intelligence on learning analytics tools to be developed by MEB and the scope of guidance service with artificial intelligence will be increased within the scope of the cooperation protocol signed between Mahmut Özer, Deputy Minister of National Education, and Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca, rector of ITU.
Within the scope of the protocol, where joint studies will be carried out on students' career planning with artificial intelligence, it will also be aimed to create individualized educational content and environments that support the personal development of students for the first time.
In addition, artificial intelligence applications that will be developed jointly in MEB's Education Management Information System will be used. Thus, artificial intelligence technology can be used as a support in the formation of educational policies.
In addition, ITU will support the training of MEB personnel on artificial intelligence.
Artificial Intelligence will be in Education

Within the scope of the cooperation protocol, ITU will also support MEB studies on these issues. Artificial intelligence related content will be prepared together for including in the curricula of information technologies and software courses and teachers will be trained on artificial intelligence by ITU.
The current curriculum on artificial intelligence practices compatible with the labor market in vocational technical education will be updated in this context. In addition, trainings on the risks of artificial intelligence technologies, applications, and the ethics of data usage will be organized within the scope of cooperation.

“We provide a three-step work plan within the scope of the protocol The first step includes the preparation of individualized learning materials to provide personal development to the student, the provision of guidance services, and the development of artificial intelligence applications for use in the Education Management Information System.
The second step involves joint work to identify and make students acquire artificial intelligence skills to for the future where artificial intelligence technologies will be widely used. In this context, artificial intelligence related content will be prepared together in the curriculum and teachers will be trained on artificial intelligence by ITU.
Existing curriculum related to artificial intelligence applications compatible with labor market in vocational technical education will be updated in this context. Finally, there will also be a jointly organized education on the risk of artificial intelligence technologies and applications, also on the information usage ethics for both students and teachers.”
Özer thanked the Prof. Dr. Mehmet Karaca and his colleagues for their support to the steps taken on artificial intelligence and wished the protocol would be beneficial.
