ITU continues their collaboration with DeepMind, a world leader in artificial intelligence research and its application to real world problems, to provide scholarships to female students who are enrolled in selected ITU M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs.
The scholarship programme was kicked-off in 2020, offering financial support as well as mentorship from DeepMind researchers to ITU scholars. DeepMind renews its commitment to the programme for 2023; new scholarships will be awarded to graduate students starting in Fall 2023-2024 term. The programme is open to graduate students in select departments, who aims to specialize in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
The DeepMind scholarships aim to support students who would not be able to take up the offer of admission without financial assistance, and to improve the diversity of the field. In addition to financial support, scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to attend events organised by DeepMind, receive a travel grant to attend international research conferences, and will be matched with a DeepMind mentor. Similar to last year, admissions are also open to international students at ITU and students from selected departments can apply for the scholarship if they are committed to focus their research on AI.
Scholarships are granted by DeepMind to female students, a group currently underrepresented in AI research in Turkey. ITU Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Applied Research Center Director Assoc. Prof. Nazim Kemal Ure said "We are filled with great enthusiasm as DeepMind extends its support to ITU. These scholarships enhance ITU's status as the foremost institution for artificial intelligence in Turkey, while also contributing to the education of future female researchers in this domain," stated Prof. Ure. He further added, "The DeepMind scholarship program from the previous year allowed us to assist a remarkable group of female students who greatly benefitted from mentorship. Additionally, we are delighted that the program accepts applications from other departments, thereby promoting greater diversity among scholars."
Application process for the scholarships will be coordinated by ITU Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Applied Research Center. Details regarding the application process and eligibility criteria can be found at:
Applications to the scholarship programme must be made by 19th of June, 2023.
